John Paul II and St? Josemaria Modus Operandi

John Paul II and his mystical bride St. Josemaria de Opus Dei has a strategic Modus Operandi. First, the Opus Dei control the Papacy because they bought Vatican real estate in the 1970's to salvage it from the Ambrosiano Bank fallout. Second, they control ALL the Cardinals and Bishops worldwide and all their appointments. (See this weblog for the month of June about the Opus Dei alone). (They literally are "wise like serpents" because the Opus Dei control the snake by its head!) Third, they control all the agendas of the Pope and therefore the survivors of those abused by priests have no room and seldom reach the Pope's ears. (See http://pope-ratz.blogspot.com/) Fourth, they have lawyers and members influencing the judges in the USA handling the priests sexual abuse cases to ensure the church always win in the case, believe or not.

Because John Paul II made the Opus Dei a Prelature -- meaning they are answerable only to the Pope -- and since they control the Pope, therefore they are answerable to only to themselves!

They were campaigning for the election of Benedict XVI years prior to the conclave.
(See http://pope-ratz.blogspot.com/)

Since the death of John Paul II's bride Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer (names he orchestrated before he died in 1975, see http://jp2m.blogspot.com/2006/11/john-paul-ii-and-saint-josemaria.html) the church echelon celebrate his feastday in major cities and cathedrals in USA and worldwide. Meaning not in some small parish or small churches but only in big basilicas and cathedrals. This year's impressive list in the USA are below.

Cardinal Mahony celebrated it (as in every year) at the Basilica of Los Angeles. So amidst the court proceedings in the Los Angeles county court, the Opus Dei is helping him to avoid any court appearance and testimonies. Most of all, Opus dei is helping him hide all the personal files of the 508 pedophile priests.

Here is EWTN list as it carried a lot of programs on Escriva on and around his feastday in the USA. Other countries did the same thing which are all posted in the Opus Dei's website.

It is notewrothy that Fr. Tom Doyle has called these same Bishops "The worst crop of Bishops in contemporary memories"!

See http://jp2m.blogspot.com/2006/10/john-paul-iis-worst-crop-of-bishops.html

So really, the Opus Dei does not give a hoot about victims of clergy abuse. These poor victims are in their bottom rung of the ladder. They are protecting their own vested financial interest by protecting the Diocese and the Bishops in winning court cases.

By the way, they did have one alleged priest who later became an Opus Dei Bishop -- accused of pedophilia but was settled out of court -- see http://jp2m.blogspot.com/2007/06/on-lot-mr-john-paul-ii-and-mrs.html

Pope John Paul II's comments on his bride Josemaria de Opus Dei

Pope John Paul II referred to Saint Josemaría's canonization in a book published last month in Italy. In the new book, "Get up, Let Us Go!", the Pope wrote: "In October, 2002, I had the joy of inscribing in the canon of saints Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, the founder of Opus Dei, an exemplary priest and an apostle of the laity for modern times."

So it goes. If I were to enter a one-minute vignette on John Paul II in the new reality TV show 'On the Lot' this is how it would be.

Title: MR. Pope John Paul II and MRS.Saint Josemaria de Opus Dei

Subtitle: The new Mystical Marriage in the Catholic Church of the Pope and Opus Dei
Wedding song: You and Me against the World

Reality: The Groom Pope John Paul II wears robe in white (only) and the Bride Saint Josemaria de Opus Dei wears robe in black (only).

The Groom's name John Paul is a composite of two males (same-sex, gay), the Bride's name Josemaria is androgynous - one name of a male and a female (go figure, like the Androgynous Devil in the Passion of the Christ movie)) Actually, heshe has mutated hisher name so many times it taste bitter to pronounce hisher name.

MR. John Paul II and MRS. Josemaria OD celebrate June Wedding anniversary worldwide

The Church is the Mystical Bride of Christ the Groom!

MR. John Paul II and his June Bride MRS. Josemaria de Opus Dei celebrate their June Wedding and Mystical Marriage all over the world - with extravagant fanfare of their world domination, with Masses concelebrated only by Cardinals and Bishops in the largest Basilicas and main cities. (See http://www.opusdei.ca/art.php?p=22667)

Look at this Canadian flag they've usurped. Has any other religious congregation ever done this with the flag of a country?

Watch out American flag! God forbid we lose our freedom of speech because of MR. John Paul II's Mystical June Bride MRS. Josemaria de Opus Dei.

And amidst the mystical marriage festivities, one of their clone child Cardinal Mahony, is busy conniving his (deceitful) derailments in the court house in Los Angeles -- exhausting all his legal options NOT to appear in court to testify and NOT to release the personal files of his 508 pedophile priests. He's got lots of Opus Dei professional advisers.

MR. John Paul II and MRS. Josemaria have tentacles that control the Pope, the Cardinals and Bishops worldwide, and they have foot soldiers monitoring ALL websites, Catholics and critics, and they'll use all their tentacles to quash their critics

(See Benedict's appetite for the Jesuits and Jon Sobrino - May 7, 2007 - http://pope-ratz.blogspot.com/ -- and http://pope-ratz.blogspot.com/2007/05/benedict-xvi-gods-rottweiler-appetite.html)

If there is one thing missing in Opus Dei, it is freedom of speech. That is why the Da Vinci Code portraying them as Silas is an artistic rendition of the truth -- as revealed in http://www.ODAN.org.

John Paul II designated Opus Dei a "personal prelature" in 1982, which means it is answerable only to the Vatican.

The fact is, the Opus Dei controls the Pope and owns the Vatican real estate, and controls all the Cardinals and Bishops on earth -- so how cunning like a snake, the Opus Dei is answerable only unto itself! And most of all, the pedophile priests victims and SNAP (www.snapnetwork.org) will always be at the gutter rung of the Catholic Hierarchy because Opus Dei has no time for victims of priestly sexual abuse because they are too busy being self-holy, wearing their cilice and watching over their amassed wealth.

In the late 70's, the Vatican is troubled by an incredible politico-financial scandal. In order to cover up the dept of the IOR ("Istituto per le Opere di Religione", the Vatican bank), which would be partly attributable to terrorist far right faction sponsoring, help is requested from the Opus Dei (in english, Work Of God) who, thanks to its nebulous satellite organization network, could easily elude a financial audit by the police authority. In return, the Opus Dei gets the near total control on the various bodies of power of the Holy See, its founder is canonized record time, and its status is modified so that the innumerable cells of its tentacular international structure get around the local ecclesiastic authority and depend only on the pope. Originally a franquist movement, the Opus Dei now aspires to be a lobby-militia acting for the re-establishment of the temporal power of the Church, and the moral control. Besides the Franco husbands, its founder, José Maria Escriva de Balaguer, was the spiritual adviser of Augusto Pinochet. Amongst other campaigns, the Opus Dei promotes a christian fundamentalism reformulated with humanistic liberal semantics.

A mercantile and highly lucrative business, the Holy See is in fact one of the oldest companies of the world, with its president, its clients and partners, its lobbies, its products and services, its marketing department, its human resources, its corporate assets, its growth objectives, its industrial secrets, etc.

MR. John Paul II and MRS. Josemaria OD and Hanssen

Mr. John Paul II and Mrs. Josemaria de Opus Dei in their Mystical Marriage produced famous clones children like Benedict XVI...... and Robert Hanssen, one of the greatest USA spy with the Russians during the reign of John Paul II.

MR. Benedict XVI and MRS. Georg
The new Mystical Marriage in the Church
Ala the Church is the Mystical Bride of Christ the Groom!

Hanssen is featured in a new movie entitled "Breach".

Unlike the fictional Da Vinci Code, however, the movie is based on the true story of convicted FBI spy and Opus Dei supernumerary Robert Hanssen.

Many wonder, how could a seemingly pious, dedicated and hard-working man be at the heart of one of the worst security breaches in the history of the United States?

The answer can be partly found in the paradoxical nature not only of Hanssen, but also of Opus Dei, both of whom share similarities such as elitism, superiority, secretiveness, intelligence, detachment, and isolation. For an in-depth article on this topic, see below.

"Opus Dei's Secret Revealed: It Takes Spies in From the Cold," by Eugene Kennedy, Religion News Service, 2001. The arrest of accused FBI spy Robert Hanssen shines a spotlight on Opus Dei, the enigmatic Catholic group he belonged to. "This intersection of secret group and secret agent, however, demands that Opus Dei either reveal itself and its operations more fully or find that questions and doubts about it will multiply in the future."

Opus Dei and Hanssen: Masters of Paradox

by Tammy A. DiNicola

When the news media reported that alleged spy Robert Hanssen was a member of Opus Dei back in 2001, many wondered how Hanssen could provide sensitive information to communists, when Opus Dei has always seemed to be so vehemently opposed to communism.

However, on closer examination, the traditional profile we might associate with a spy and the traits common to members of Opus Dei are remarkably similar despite seeming paradoxical. Several words come to mind: elitism, superiority, secretiveness, intelligence, detachment, isolation, fierce loyalty. All of these traits and attributes can generally be found in Opus Dei members as well as spies.

George Bush warned John Paul II on USA Clergy Sexual Abuse

concern about sexual abuse scandal

Besides Fr. Tom Doyle, the President of the United States warned John Paul II about the pedophile priests in America. see: http://jp2m.blogspot.com/2006/11/john-paul-ii-and-saint-josemaria.html

The Church is the Mystical Bride and Christ is the Bridegroom, so it is said (and taught)in Catholic Catechism. That wedding took place in the first century. In the 20th century a new mystical gay wedding took place at the Vatican when MRS. Saint Josemaria 'bought' the Vatican for 1 Billion to bail it out of the scandal of the Ambrosiano Bank. This was hisher mystical Opus Dei bridal dowry.
(see www.OctopusDei.org and http://www.odan.org/foundations.htm for the wealth of Opus Dei)

MR.Pope John Paul II abolished the office of the Devil's Advocate -- the office that proved anything negative and why a person must not be canonized a saint. That is why he was able to canonize his bride, MRS.Saint Josemaria as the fastest saint to be canonized in modern times.

So instead of spending his gay time examining his JPIIPPA John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army and using his gay papal powers to stop their heinous gay pedophiliac activities during his 26 years papacy, MR. John Paul wallowed in narcisstic self-glory with MRS. Saint Josemaria as they spent their honeymoon in the gay papal bed at the Vatican -- and prepared also for his own imminent canonization by his papal clone Benedict XVI -- their mystical marriage gay love child.

Ending: St. Michael the Archangel pushes the John Paul II Millstone...... and MR.John Paul II rolls into the deep Tiber River...... and MRS.Saint Josemaria is weeping as an androgynous widow with blood dripping from hisher black cossack ......surrounded by wailing Opus Dei members beating their heads against the walls of the 86 Billion Euro Vatican real estate they've acquired......with blood dripping also from their pants - because of the cilice they wear around their thighs!

This is posted on the occasion of the the feast of Saint(?) Josemaria and monthlong celebrations of the Opus Dei with the Pope, Cardinals and Bishops concelebrating Mass in cathedrals -- as they want to show-off their imperial power worldwide.

These are the SAME Cardinals and Bishops COHORTS in the CRIME of priest pedophilia --- who control the judges handling survivors abuse cases -- to protect the Opus Dei vested interest at the Vatican and the papacy!

Here is the letter to John Paul II against the canonization of St. Josemaria. Of course he put this in the thrash can like he did with the 1985 report of Fr. Thomas Doyle and many other reports warning him on priest pedophilia.

ODAN's Opposition to the Canonization of Josemaria Escrivá de Balaguer
September 11, 2002
http://www.odan.org/tw_opposition_to_canonization.htm

Statement on the Canonization of Escrivá

ODAN opposes the canonization of Josemaria Escrivá de Balaguer, founder of Opus Dei. Based on the testimonies of thousands negatively affected by Opus Dei, and published evidence from various sources revealing the irregularities surrounding Escriva's beatification and canonization processes, ODAN strongly believes that canonizing Escriva would be a grave mistake which would produce irreparable harm to the Church and leave thousands vulnerable to the deceitful and manipulative practices of Opus Dei. Specific details and reasons for opposing Escriva's canonization follow:

Facts & Irregularities in the Escriva Canonization

The quotes and facts below are taken from Kenneth Woodward's article, "A Questionable Saint, Is Opus Dei's founder fit for canonization?" Newsweek, January 13, 1992; from the official Opus Dei website; from Kenneth Woodward in his book, "The Helpers of God: How the Catholic Church makes Its Saints" National Catholic Register World Notes May 10, 1992; from Kenneth Woodward's article "A Coming-Out Party in Rome, Opus Dei prepares to stand by its man," Newsweek, May 18 1992; from the Vatican website; and from the Catholic Encyclopedia.

1. Based on materials worked up by a team of Opus Dei priests, John Paul II declared Escriva "heroically virtuous" in April 1990.

2. In July 1991, a miraculous healing authenticated, in part, by Opus Dei doctors was attributed to Escriva's intercession.

3. There is no devil's advocate to systematically challenge a candidate's claim to holiness. Thus some Vatican officials said Opus Dei was able to use its influence to manipulate the church's saint-making system for the benefit of its founder.

4. Opus Dei's first prelate, Alvaro del Portillo, who was also Escriva's successor, was a consultor to several congregations and councils of the Holy See, such as the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. As a member of the Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law, he also helped in the drafting of the current Code that eliminated the "devil's advocate," promulgated by John Paul II in 1983.

5. An Opus Dei member, Dr. Raffaello-Cortesini, a heart surgeon, headed the medical board that reviews potential miracles for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.

6. Serious charges were brought that Opus Dei prevented critics of Escriva from testifying at church tribunals called to investigate his life. Opus Dei officials insist that 11 critics were heard among 92 witnesses. Several former members were refused a hearing. Among them: Maria del Carmen Tapia, Father Vladimir Feltzman and John Roche.

7. Escriva defended Adolf Hitler. He told Father Feltzman that "Hitler had been unjustly accused of killing 6 million Jews." "In fact he had killed only 4 million."

8. Even some Opus Dei sympathizers, like retired Cardinal Silvio Oddi who served the Vatican for decades in key posts, believe the push to make Escriva a Saint has done Opus Dei "more harm than good". Although bishops are reluctant to criticize Opus Dei openly, says Oddi, many are "very displeased" by the rush to judgment and see "no need for the immediate beatification of their founder."

9. Normally to assess potential saints the Vatican appoints "consultors" who come from the candidate's homeland. Curiously, eight of Escriva's nine judges were Italian - a sign say critics that the congregation wanted to avoid Spanish theologians, many of whom are known to oppose Opus Dei. Opus Dei officials argue that because Escriva was an international figure and lived in Rome, there was no need to have Spanish judges.

10. Opus Dei has refused to let outsiders see the material on which Escriva's "heroic virtues" were judged -- an unprecedented act of secrecy, say priests familiar with the process.

11. Opus Dei officials have claimed that Escriva's cause had been unanimously approved. However Newsweek has learned that two of the judges, Msgr. Luigi De Magistris, deputy head of the Vatican's Holy Penitentiary, and Msgr. Justo Fernandez Alonso, rector of the Spanish National Church in Rome, did not approve the cause. In fact, one of the dissenters reportedly wrote that beatifying Escriva could cause the church "grave public scandal."

12. Under Pope Paul VI, Opus Dei was suspect. Vatican documents show that Paul worried that Opus Dei priests in the Vatican were leaking confidential decisions to Escriva.

13. John Paul II has increased the number of Opus Dei bishops . . . (there were only 4 before, all in Latin America) and granted Opus its own Pontifical "atheneum" in Rome despite objections from the rectors of the Church's established pontifical universities.

14. In 1982 John Paul II awarded Opus Dei a unique status as "personal prelature" which means its clerical and lay members take spiritual direction from their own prelate in Rome and not like other Catholics from their local bishop.

15. Opus Dei's real power is inside the Vatican bureaucracy . . .several ranking cardinals and at least one of the pope's personal secretaries, Father Stanislaw Dziwisz from Cracow are either [Opus Dei] "cooperators" or like the Pope himself, strong sympathizers.

16. Officials who supervise the media-conscious pope's liaisons with television are members of Opus Dei.

17. Officials of the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints not only gave the cause top priority but, as the official positio on Escriva shows, they also bent rules to exclude damaging evidence about Escriva's character and commitment to the church.

18. The positio claims that the volatile Escriva lost his temper only once, yet many former members who knew him will insist he was routinely abusive of anyone suspected of being an enemy of Opus Dei, including Pope John XXIII and Paul VI. Former numerary Maria del Carmen Tapia relates in her book Beyond the Threshold: A Life in Opus Dei that Escriva routinely lost his temper, and that as secretary in charge of writing down his words and actions, she was not allowed to right down anything negative that she witnessed. She herself was subjected to abusive words from Escriva, who called her the most filthy names, e.g. WHORE, SOW, PIG, and then screamed during this meeting with both men and women present, that someone should "pull down her panties.... and give her a spanking," referring to a fellow numerary woman who had assisted Tapia by mailing letters for her. Regarding this statement, a supporter of ODAN wrote the following: "This is the most bizarre and perverted talk coming from anyone, man or woman, but for a man to say this to an adult woman...for a priest to use this language and make this statement to a woman; for a saint to make this statement, completely perverts not only the rules of civilized behavior, but sanctity itself. There is no excuse for this conduct, no excuse at all. This, in and of itself, belies his sanctity."

19. A Vatican source said, contrary to established procedure, no published writings critical of Escriva were included in the documents given to the judges of his cause; nor did the congregation investigate Escriva's celebrated conflicts with the Jesuits, reports of his pro-fascist leanings and Opus Dei's involvement with the Franco government.

20. 40% of the testimony came from just two men, (Alvaro) Portillo (deceased Opus Dei prelate and Escriva's successor) and his assistant Father Javier Echevarria, (current Opus Dei prelate).

21. Although 1,300 bishops and cardinals from all over the world had written to the Vatican giving positive statements on the Opus Dei founder, only 128 of them had actually met him in person.

22. According to [Woodward's] research, Opus Dei members allegedly have put hundreds of bishops under financial pressure in order to have them send positive reports about Escriva to the Vatican. Especially in the Third World, bishops were allegedly told that financial contributions from Opus Dei might be in jeopardy if they did not answer the request for positive testimony.

23. The "devil's advocate" that had been part of the canonization process before 1983 was replaced by a "relator"; thus the door was open for the rapid canonization of Escriva. (Note that the current Opus Dei prelate at the time, Portillo, was part of the committee that eliminated the devil's advocate.) In the past, it was the job of the devil's advocate to ask "why shouldn't this person be canonized?"

Feedback from ODAN supporters:
(Opinions held by the persons below do not necessarily reflect the views of ODAN, its officers or Board of Directors.)

Joseph I. B. Gonzales, Former numerary, six years

The problem is not the man. It is the institutionalization of the man.

My real concern is that his faults--his harshness, duplicity, or immoderation, for example--should by the fact of canonization render these traits dubiously normative, not only for Opus Dei but for all Catholics as well.

I hope that now that Josemaria Escriva is canonized, his life and the organization he founded will be opened up to the critical perspective that time and reflection by necessity lends to the fair understanding of the lives of the saints. At this point we may perhaps begin to acknowledge the glaring reality of his defects as well as their potentially damaging influence, just as today we easily recognize the vindictiveness of St. Jerome, the rigorism of St. Alphonsus de Liguori, or the neuroticism of St. Therese of Lisieux.

Joseph Gonzales has written the Vocation Trap for the odan website.

Dr. John Roche, Linacre College, Oxford

"I am concerned about the harm that the canonization of Josemaria Escriva will do to the reputation of the whole process of beatification and canonization."

To read Dr. Roche's personal testimony of his experience as a numerary in Opus Dei, please read his True Story, "The Inner World of Opus Dei."

John Roche has also added the following points to the list of Facts and Irregularities in the Canonization of Monsignor Escriva:

1. Words of Monsignor Escriva

"... as Jesus received his doctrine from the Father, so my doctrine is not mine but comes from God and so not a jot or tittle shall ever be changed" (Cronica);

"I will pass away, and those who come afterwards will look at you with envy as if you were a relic" (Cronica i, 1971);

". . . when I think of this divine predilection, I feel ashamed" (Cronica i, 1971);

"As we come to know the Work ... not finding other more expressive words of love, perhaps we had to have recourse to scripture: tota pulchra est, amica mea, et macula non est in te (Song of Songs 4:7) ... the Work is tota pulchra ... this wonderful jewel that men admire" (Cronica v, 1960);

2. Words about Monsignor Escriva, from the internal magazine, Cronica, while he still lived

"The heritage of heaven comes to us through the Father" (Cronica i, 1961);

" ... we will bless the Lord ... because He chose our Father as the firm base for a Work projected through all the length and breadth of time" (Cronica i, 1971);

"God's grace prepared the priestly soul of our Father, making it to the measure of Christ's heart, that is open to the multitude that our Lord wanted to call to his Work with the passing of time, and even to all humanity" (Cronica i, 1971);

3. Facts about the Founder

L. Carandell, Vida y milagros de monsenor Escriva ... (Barcelona, 1975), 62-67. On 24 January 1968 Mgr. Escriva solicited the title 'Marquis of Peralta' claiming that there was a family connection. He was granted the title. At the same time his brother, Santiago, solicited the title 'Baron of San Felipe'

4. Testimony of former members

During the period 1959-1973, while I was a member of Opus Dei, it was frequently stated publicly at get-togethers of members of Opus Dei, that Monsignor Escriva had stated often that places where important events happened to him during the early years of Opus Dei would become centers of international pilgrimage -- John Roche

In July 1973, in Galway, Ireland, Fr Daniel Cummings, the then Procurator-General of Opus Dei informed me the Monsignor Escriva was divinely inspired to found Opus Dei, that he could not err in matters of the spirit of opus Dei, and that, therefore, as a condition of membership I must believe in that Divine inspiration -- John Roche

"On one occasion the Father was given the news that ... an old priest ... of Opus Dei ... had a severe haemorrhage and was near to death. Monsignor Escriva replied that this son of his lacked supernatural outlook, that he wished to go outside without wearing his cassock" -- Maria Angustias Moreno, El Opus Dei, 1993, 57.

Other comments about the canonization

Kenneth L. Woodward, Newsweek New York, NY

Fair to Opus Dei? Letter to the Editor of First Things, 61, March 1996, 2-7

I am pleased that Richard John Neuhaus ("The Work of God," November 1995) finds me "often fair-minded," though I suspect that is only when my views mirror his -- as they often do. That he detects a "long-standing hostility to Opus Dei" is not quite fair-minded of Father Neuhaus. My writing about Opus Dei has focused almost entirely on the beatification of its founder, not the organization itself. On this point, the only fair-minded conclusion I can reach, given the evidence of the positio itself and interviews with people in Rome involved in the process, is that Opus Dei subverted the canonization process to get its man beatified. In a word, it was a scandal -- from the conduct of the tribunals through the writing of the positio to the high-handed treatment of the experts picked to judge the cause. That Newsweek caught Opus Dei officials making claims that were not true is a matter of record. Escriva may have been a saint -- who am I to judge? but you could never tell from the way his cause was handled. Then, too, there is the matter of the banality of his writings, especially the axioms. Not the sort of stuff, I think, to build a spiritual community around. As for the organization itself, I'm sure it meets the needs of some Catholics. But as a parent, I am naturally inclined to worry about its methods and to take more seriously than does Father Neuhaus the complaints of those who feel they have lost a child to the organization. I, too, thought Jim Martin did a good job in his America piece, and am sorry only that so many folks felt they could not speak on the record. Whatever else it does, Opus Dei strikes fear in the timid and the mitered. I've met some likable people in Opus Dei but I'd hate to have my daughter marry one. To be fair-minded, I wouldn't want her to wed a Jesuit either, though I hope she'd ask one to say the nuptial mass.

Kenneth Woodward is the author of Making Saints, How the Catholic Church Determines Who Becomes a Saint, Who Doesn't, and Why, Simon and Schuster, 1990, in which he writes about Opus Dei and Escriva's beatification on pp. 383-389. One former numerary testifies that this book is on Opus Dei's Index of Forbidden Books, with the most restricted classification.

Hardball

This was a missive sent to an Opus Dei member who was featured on a Christianity segment of Chris Matthew's "Hardball"

Patti Lechner:

Seeing you on MSNBC’s “Hardball” stair-mastering your way to heaven fingering your rosary ring reminded me of the “drill” that takes place daily on every dairy farm across this country…as the herd makes it way, in the same “pecking order” worked out among the animals, to the “milking parlor” twice daily, 12 hours apart…without being summoned, exactly at the same time each day without watches or clocks…consistently and regularly day in and day out….truly amazing to see….all without the prompting of a bell….the summoning call of a “herdsman” or any other contrivance….just plain simple unwitting, thoughtless, routine behavior….a regimen so ingrained that 7 days a week and 52 a year they make the journey from meadow to milking parlor twice at the very same time daily, save those who periodically are “dried up” before being “freshened again”….farm lingo.

Having “worked out” my entire life, I am familiar with the drill and monotony of “jogging” around an elliptical indoor track, the mind numbing ennui of using a treadmill, the incredible tedium of riding a stationary bicycle into oblivion and the joyless restlessness of climbing a stairmaster endlessly to nowhere.

To ameliorate boredom, all exercise centers have incorporated a number of diversions to “distract” from the lassitude of unending repetition of the exercise. Thus, there is “piped in music”, numerous TVs hung, each offering a different channel with audio obtained by a headset tuned to the appropriate FM frequency, different color lights, “offbeat artwork”, and of course the exercisers themselves tuned into radio headsets or listening to the music of a favorite CD.

The whole experience is testament that unless some effort is either made by the club or exerciser, the repetition of the experience is overwhelming causing the mind to “drift off” in thought, focusing on anything but the boring repetitious exercise…..like on the day’s forthcoming work goals, tonight’s dinner party, yesterday’s excitement, the anticipated vacation coming up or just onto any “mental escape” which mentally transports the exerciser from having to contemplate the repetitious routine of the exercise.

The same is no different with the rosary. Everyone who has ever experienced its recitation and who is honest with themselves has to admit that concentrating on a “joyful” or “sorrowful” mystery while reciting 5 sets of 10 “hail Marys” separated by an “our father” and a “glory be” is impossible without the “mind drifting off” to some other thought, “such as is this repetitive experience” akin to other mind numbing activities….requiring something to break the monotony brought about by reciting “hail Mary full of grace….holy Mary mother of God….now and at the hour…” 10 times x times 5 times more in repetition, with the very words uttered, then finally “droned” in monotone mental chant.

C’mon admit it…you are no different than anyone else…. My point being that saying the rosary and its mind numbing prayers is the intellectual equivalent of having a mouse traverse the maze….no thought, unbelievable repetitious routine, all requiring our “human side” to “drift off” to some other thought while “going through the motions” of reciting this same set of words…over and over, again and again.

Want to know the origin of the rosary? Conceived and created before the invention of printing to provide some form of recollection of the life of Christ when a print version was unavailable to be used and at the same time as a prayer for the “faithful” whose lack of education left them unable to dialogue in “meaningful prayer” with their creator.

So is this where your education and Catholicism has taken you?..... to the cult like ritual of Opus Dei accompanied by “thoughtless repetition” of the rosary, accomplishing two repetitious tasks, both rosary and stairmaster in “lemming like fashion”, followed by daily attendance at mass?....whoa….the shallowness….the blind unfettered rule following with no thought to reality, Christianity as a philosophy, the ignorance of the Catholic church and the failings of its leaders….indeed your part or role in all of this as a Catholic?

To see you go through the motions and recite the “drill” of the non-thinking “ghetto Catholic”…."I always tell the kids that Christ has a plan mapped out for them and only they can execute it." to which I reply…Oh? Really?….…incredible…and in this day and age…can there exist someone seemingly so educated still perpetuating the “hapless drill” of the less educated Catholics from decades previous.

Mapped out for them? Ever heard of free will? Think Christ has plans mapped out for Catholics only….others find theirs at Wal Mart?

One needs to ask what of the poor souls who preceded the coming of Christ, who were without prophets, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Aaron, Joshua, Samuel, Eli, or Moses, tablets, an Ark of the Covenant and uh, uh, ….well you know the rest…. Saved? Doomed? Forgiven? Redeemed? Or, are they getting there on frequent walker miles… earned trodding a lifetime through their individual vale of tears?

* Don’t you just love the Catholic Church…..you do not just have original sin, you’re stained with it no matter when you entered the time line of humanity !

How is it that you can “dutifully ramble on” droning the rosary while stair-mastering and come away confident that, daily attendance at mass and performing “other mindless devotions” are accomplishing anyone’s salvation much less yours or that of your children, particularly when there is so much else going on in the world and in the Church around you that demand that an honest, thinking Catholic at least question, if not involve himself or herself in the pro-active “change thereof ” to the betterment of church and mankind?

The next scandal on the horizon is the number of children fathered by Catholic priests but being raised in secret by the Catholic Church in orphanages in the U.S. , Canada , Ireland , Mexico , South America , France , Germany , Spain , and Italy .

As for Scripture in which you profess a unquestioning belief, experiments have done seeking from individuals visual recall identification, asking a group of ten “eyewitnesses” to a subject whom they were allowed to view, to describe clothing content, hat, clothing color, facial features, apparent ethnicity, scars, tattoos, missing teeth, etc.

The varied results were amazing with only two out of ten “eyewitnesses” identifying at least three out of five of the same characteristics on the subject viewed.

Similar experiments were conducted using a phrase whispered by several subjects one to each other in rotation with the last subject reciting something totally different than the original phrase.

Given the imperfections of human behavior in attempting to maintain exacting visual or message integrity even at these levels, is there not any question at all on your part as an educated person that the “words and stories contained in the Old and New Testaments” are at best approximations.

Accordingly, are the three tomes, Torah, Bible or Koran a compilation of the musings of the male* philosophers of their day who with too much time on their hands….formulated fairly obvious truths of human nature and expressed them in a code of conduct for human behavior to enable a civil society to exist, selling them as the word of God ‘revealed’ to them as prophets….explaining life and its purpose through the concept of a "higher being", and an "eventual reward".....termed salvation, attainable only by following rigid rules of behavior?.... or as we know by now, are they precepts which essentially call for leading an honest, kind, charitable, humble, law abiding life leading to salvation.

Do you think that Christ is a sexist? Does ordination somehow confer partially divine wisdom to its male recipients allowing them and only them to sermonize, as this current Pope has proclaimed?

As for John Paul II, pray for the repose of his soul, hoping that age and Parkinson’s contributed to his inability to be decisive with regard to his lack of leadership, failing to dismiss member’s of the ‘old boys network’ and for not finding fault when and where it was due.

John Paul II may have seen many issues through the prism of life with righteousness, clarity, understanding, empathy, honesty and integrity but on the issue of Priest pedophilia, he missed it entirely….and perhaps as far as eternity is concerned….permanently!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. This scandal, the cover up, the lack of accountability in the leadership from the top down...no firings, no demotions, no dismissals....well it simply take your breath away because in any other company, corporation, organization...they would be gone with this record!

Think about what the Church has become since the time Christ said to Peter, "and I say to thee, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". Matthew 16:18

Want to know what Christ is probably doing right about now….sitting with his face covered by his hands buried in his lap, weeping and shaking his head from side to side saying, “ I can’t believe they are doing this in my name!”

Finally as a woman, the philosophical question you should be asking yourself is how is it that the priesthood attracts so many gays, weirdoes, pedophiles and psychological misfits instead of the best and the brightest?

The answer is because of its very construct being open to men and only men, it seeks not the best and the brightest but rather appeals to a sizeable segment of misfits among the male population who see in it an opportunity only too good to be true…like putting the fox in charge to guard the hen house…a ready made stable of ‘boys’ to prey upon.

Truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it and ignorance may deride it. But, in the end, there it is.

Advocate for ordination of women priests…..and give up the mind numbing rosary routine and start dialoguing with your creator….get involved in adult discussion or prayer groups….get out and minister to the “shut ins”, those in the hospitals requesting a visit…whatever…anything but that “blind mind numbing ghetto prayer recitation” which if you are honest, you know turns into a drone…going through the motions.

I won’t even touch corporal mortification espoused by Opus Dei except to say the title alone conveys its inanity......

Believe me the Catholic church does not have a corner on the market of ideas for salvation….witness the subjects I addressed in this letter….the church’s response or lack thereof and the age old custom and practices still revered and employed without any thought to the worth thereof in terms of bringing the abider closer to God and salvation.

Hope you are not offended by my intrusion into your “comfortable world” God bless and good luck!

John Paul II and Opus Dei and Priestly Sex Abuse Scandal

Sexual allegations against an Opus Dei bishop!!

The Response of the Opus Dei to the Priestly Sex Abuse Scandal

NOTE: The following is an excerpt from an article by Lee Penn, "Opus Dei & the Da Vinci Code, part II", published in the Journal of the Spiritual Counterfeits Project [SCP] (Vol. 29:4-30:1, 2006, pp. 42-67.) (*) (**)

Second, there is the Opus Dei response to the revelation of priestly sex abuse (and hierarchical cover-up) in the Catholic Church. It’s true that activists and researchers who investigate the scandal have found little evidence that Opus Dei members have sexually abused children and teenagers.[1] That’s a remarkable finding – and is in contrast with the Legionaries of Christ, a conservative Catholic “new ecclesial movement” whose founder has been publicly accused of molesting seminarians.[2] When Bishop Kurt Krenn of Austria became embroiled in scandal in 2004 after it was revealed that his seminary students were hoarding child pornography and groping each other for the camera, it was an Opus Dei bishop, Klaus Küng, whom John Paul II sent to the diocese to clean up the mess.[3]

Nevertheless, the response of several Opus Dei spokesmen to the victims could be summarized as “let them eat cake.” The mind-set that Opus Dei brings to Vatican policy-makers would ensure the continuation of the cover-up into the indefinite future.

In August 2002, the conservative Catholic journalist Rod Dreher wrote in a column for the Wall Street Journal that unless John Paul II took “dramatic action to restore the church to holiness – starting with deposing this legion of bad bishops – his [the Pope’s] criticism of modern society will ring hollow in the heart of this faithful American Catholic.”[4] The prominent Opus Dei priest Fr. John McCloskey replied to the Journal that a “minuscule proportion” of “Catholic priests and bishops” were implicated in the scandal, and that “remedies are already being put into effect. I would hope that Mr. Dreher would be more patient in terms of the remedy. The church has a pretty good track record. Check in again in about another thousand years.”[5]

Other Opus Dei members and supporters have said likewise. In March 2002, an Italian priest, Fr. Vimpari, relied on Escrivá’s maxims to attack “Diogenes,” a Catholic World News columnist, for his criticism of scandal-tainted priests. The priest also blamed parents for not teaching children to respect the Church hierarchy: “Unfortunately not all priests live in full harmony with the Church and with their sacred commitments. One of the prominent figures of the Church of the last century, Blessed Josemaría Escrivá, reminds us accurately of the fact that any priest—whoever he might be—is however always another Christ (The Way, 66). … Yes, there is a crisis in the Church in many countries. And yes, many priests continue to contribute to it, but this should inspire us to pray more for the priests and for their sanctification, rather than to publicly ridicule them as a group or even under pseudonyms. After all, even more responsible for the present crises are those parents who educate their children to all, but not Gospel values, including the lack of respect and devotion to the hierarchical structure given to the Church by Our Lord.”[6]

Fr. Vimpari’s Escrivá-inspired admonition is the opposite of what Christ taught. Far from assigning privileges and “devotion to the hierarchical structure” to His apostles, Christ called the leaders of his Church to accountability and to childlike humility. When the apostles asked Christ, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven,” He replied, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matt. 18:1-6) After another squabble among the disciples, as they vied for position, Jesus rebuked them: “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matt. 20:25-28)

In April 2002, Cardinal Julián Herranz, an Opus Dei member whom Vatican reporter John Allen has described as “the Vatican’s attorney general,” criticized “a climate of ‘exaggeration, financial exploitation and nervousness’ in the United States. Herranz also complained of a ‘tenacious scandalistic style’ in the American press.”[7] He denounced requirements to report abuse allegations to civil authorities, saying: “The rapport of trust and the secrecy of the office inherent to the relationship between the bishop and his priest collaborators, and between priests and the faithful, must be respected. … We must oppose efforts to impede the necessary pastoral work of priests with young children and adolescents, or to discourage vocations or entrance into seminaries that have been generically and unjustly defamed.”[8] In 2003, the Cardinal said, “pedophilia is only minimally identified with the Church, touching scarcely one percent of priests. Meanwhile for other categories of persons, the percentages are much higher.”[9]

Ratzinger, who is now Pope, said the same in December 2002.[10] Reality soon intervened. A research report issued in early 2004 at the behest of the Catholic bishops in the US found 4% of Catholic priests serving since 1950 in the US have been accused of sexually molesting minors.[11]

At a March 2004 conference on “Justice and Penal Processes in the Church,” sponsored by Santa Croce University (an Opus Dei institution in Rome), a Spanish Opus Dei priest set out the party line: more leniency for priests accused of abuse, and more rigor against artificial contraception and abortion.[12] Fr. Joaquín Llobell, a professor of canon law and a member of a Vatican appeals court, criticized the U. S. Catholic bishops’ “one strike and you’re out” policy adopted in 2002. He said that that “canon law has a bias in favor of rehabilitation of the offender, and that it seeks proportionality between offense and punishment – meaning that ‘one size fits all’ penalties are foreign to canonical tradition.” Additionally, he “criticized the American Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People for asking bishops to inform civil authorities of any accusation against a priest, ‘perhaps without distinguishing sufficiently the origin of the report and its credibility’.” Llobell also criticized the Vatican for “revisions to sex abuse norms … approved by John Paul II in February 2003, which removed the statute of limitations, allowed the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith [CDF] to defrock a priest using non-judicial means, and prevented appeal” of a CDF decision. The Opus Dei canon lawyer opposed recent reforms in the US and in Rome that aim to root out abusive priests – but “wonders aloud why bishops don’t prosecute priests who tolerate birth control in the confessional, and he applauds American Archbishop Raymond Burke’s denial of communion to pro-choice Catholic politicians.”

For some leading Catholics – including Opus Dei members – Americans’ public outrage at the abuse scandal heralds the beginning of a persecution of the Catholic Church and (as a deserved consequence of persecuting the Church) the downfall of the US. In 2002, Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga of Honduras, who is not a member of Opus Dei, decried “media ‘persecution’ of the Catholic church in the United States, comparing it to the times of Nero and Diocletian, and more recently, Stalin and Hitler.”[13] Another non-Opus Dei cardinal, Norberto Rivera Carrera (from Mexico City) supported Maradiaga, saying that Rodriguez “expresses well in this regard the common sentiment of many of us, cardinals and bishops, in Latin America, in the context of what appears to us to be a generalized and ungenerous attack on the U.S. Church. … Reviewing church history, one can see that many persecutions started precisely with the moral delegitimization of its members and of its hierarchy, with the aim of disqualifying the Church and dismantling its prestige. This is what happened in the early centuries of Christian history, with Nero for example. This is what happened in the past century with the persecutions in Mexico, in Spain, in Nazi Germany and in communist countries. It is this that seems to be happening today in the United States.”[14] That same year, a lay canon lawyer associated with Opus Dei said (in response to the then-emerging abuse scandal in Boston), “something will happen to America to protect the Church. This is tried and true historically. … any country that has historically persecuted the Church at the height of its power collapsed.”[15] Such is the voice of “God’s mafia” to America: lay off the priests and bishops, or “God” will ensure that America takes a long walk off a short pier.

Third, there is one instance that has come to light so far of sexual allegations against an Opus Dei bishop – charges made by Alberto Jaimes Berti, a Caracas lawyer (and critic of Opus Dei) who had been legal counsel for the Apostolic Nunciature (the Vatican embassy) in that country. As reported in Their Kingdom Come, in 1970, “the nuncio in Caracas received a complaint from the parents of two teenaged boys in the diocese of Margarita, a group of islands off the Venezuelan coast. The parents were threatening criminal action against the local bishop for molesting their sons and the nuncio feared a scandal. He asked Berti to intervene. The Bishop of Margarita was Francisco de Guruceaga, Opus Dei’s first vocation in Venezuela. Berti flew to La Asunción on the Isla de Margarita and through the help of a woman prosecutor in the sexual offences department got hold of and shredded the Guruceaga file. He then negotiated a $160,000 payment for the parents. The nuncio sent Guruceaga to London on an extended sabbatical, where he lived a secular existence for the next three years, traveling extensively. In 1973 the new nuncio, Monsignor Antonio del Giudice, gave Guruceaga another chance and appointed him Bishop of La Guaira, a small diocese and port city in the federal district of Caracas. According to Berti, Guruceaga considered himself a mercantile prelate, licensed to make money for God’s work. One of Guruceaga’s deals had been the 1975 sale for $2.5 million of a tract of land belonging to the diocese of La Guaira. The money disappeared.”[16] The next nuncio asked Berti to investigate – which was done, and the documentation went to Rome. Nothing happened thereafter; he retained his post until 2001, when he resigned at age 73. In this Opus Dei bishop’s case, the lust for boys seemed to go with the lust for money – and he benefited from the usual ecclesiastical cover-up.

John Paul II Orwellian Autocracy

This is how John Paul II reigned for 26 years and his papal clone Benedict XVI and other papal clones of the Opus Dei rule the Catholic Church today: Orwellian Autocracy style!

No wonder there is so much crisis in the church: The Cleveland Diocese just announced that it will close 48 parishes because there are no more priests and Catholics populating them . Then there is the John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army that keeps marching on in the United States, Ireland, Mexico, with other countries to follow suit.

Below is an article that speaks on why the Catholic Church is in a crisis.

http://www.catholica.com.au/brianstake/018_bt_040607.php

We're in a Crisis!

Dear friends,

Whichever way you look at it the Holy Roman Catholic Church is in the midst of an enormous crisis. This morning's front page story in the Sydney Morning Herald regarding Cardinal Pell's call for all Catholic School Principals, Deputy Principals and Religious Education Co-ordinators to take an Oath of Allegiance to Church teachings underlines the crisis from one side. One hardly needs to be Methuselah to appreciate the crisis where 85% of the baptised faithful across the Western world have now vamoosed out the door has now reached the point where, privately, even principals, deputy principals and religious education co-ordinators have serious misgivings of what the institutional leaders believe is "the truth". When might the ecclesial leaders of the Church start demanding Oaths of Allegiance from parish priests, religious and even bishops and cardinals who disagree with the small number of issues out of the millions that presently cause so much contention in Catholic teaching? A serious question does have to be asked though: will Orwellian style tactics borrowed from the Totalitarian States of yesteryear that try to impose compliance on the faithful who are still trying to participate address the underlying cause of the crisis?

The crisis is not all one-sided though. In news overnight from the United States, one of the principal activist groups in the Church disenchanted with the present direction being forged by the Church's ecclesial leaders is itself in crisis. 38 newspapers across the United States yesterday carried an Associated Press story about the financial and membership crisis facing Voice of the Faithful.

The Church faces an enormous crisis at the moment. In the Western world, 85% of the ordinary faithful have just "given up" and quietly walked out the door without leaving any protest notes. They don't write to the pope, or any bishops or parish priests explaining why they have left. They seem to have figured it simply isn't worth the effort. No one is listening. These men seem to think they have all the answers, they know God's mind even better than God knows it himself, and they never make mistakes.

The sad thing is that there are no really effective voices at the moment strong enough to protest. In Australia we have little in the way of independent scrutiny of the policy direction being taken by the institutional Church's leaders other than what small space the mainstream secular press can give it occasionally. At the end of last year we lost OnLine Catholics the first "independent voice" seeking to treat religion and spirituality issues seriously and from a standpoint that did not automatically assume that "Father knows best". The truth is that OnLine Catholics was largely funded by the religious orders seeking to try and stir up interest from the broad ranks in the Church. In many ways the hope for reform continues to rest with the religious orders as they are the ones with the time, and commitment to be taking spiritual and theological issues seriously. But their numbers are rapidly dwindling and the focus of the Orders today seems to be increasingly focused on attending to the welfare of their members in aged care facilities. ACLRI (Australian Council of Leaders of Religious Institutes), the joint voice of the Religious Orders in Australia, seems to be in solid retreat and that probably explains the demise of OnLine Catholics and the re-focusing of the Orders on the internal welfare of their members than it does on what's going on in the wider world.

There is actually cause for some hope. While there has been a massive slide in participation in the spiritual and sacramental life of the institutional Church, this is not matched by any catastrophic decline in interest in spirituality and belief in God or Jesus Christ more generally. One measure of this is that even though the institution seems to have lost interest in the spiritual welfare of its flock others, like Papal Knight, Rupert Murdoch, and other media barons and publishers have perceived there is a significant audience out there with spiritual needs and we have seen a steady increase in "body and soul" type programming. In Australia the quality of religious programming on our own national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, has increased substantially in recent decades. Less and less of this secular programming is even interested in examining the decline of institutionalised religion and the failings of the existing system and it is forging out endeavouring to meet the aspirations of this now vast sector of the population that has left the likes of Cardinal Pell far, far behind. The people might be sick of the Church. They are not necessarily sick of God, sick of Jesus Christ, or the appreciation that the spiritual side of life is important.

Another cause for hope is that even though there has been this massive decline in Church "liturgy" there has been a corresponding massive increase in secular "liturgy" — secular programs that seek to help ordinary people access the spiritual dimension of their lives and aspirations. Even organisations like the NRL and AFL have a very keen appreciation these days for the importance of "secular liturgy" served up as part of their football games.

The challenge each of us faces as an individual is where do we place our bets? Do you put your life, and eternity, on the line that the Cardinal has the right answer? Or do we have to strike out on our own? Self-evidently most have chosen the latter. My confident expectation is that the measures the Cardinal is presently implementing — which are basically a regurgitation of the policies that have failed so abysmally for close on 200 years and which have largely been responsible for driving the faithful out of the pews — will only exacerbate the drift. With the added power of World Youth Day and the liturgical fare that we now hear rumoured to be in the pipeline, one can expect that after all the immediate glitz has faded the exit will be exacerbated in even more spectacular fashion.

My advice, for what it is worth, is just make sure you book a seat on the right trolleybus to where the final accountability for what has happened over the last 200 years is finally evaluated. It will not be evaluated by any "democratic vote", nor by any cardinal or even Pope, but alone by that Prince who does hold the ultimate welfare of "everything and everybody" in their Word!

John Paul II Legacy of the Devastation of Souls

http://www.christorchaos.com/HeavensAdvocate.htm

Heaven's Advocate
by Thomas A. Droleskey

The canonization factory has been working at full tilt in the past twenty-eight years since the former Karol Cardinal Wojtyla succeeded Pope John Paul I and took the same name so as to "honor" Popes John XXIII and Paul VI, the two men who presided over the beginnings of the ascent of Modernism into the very seats Catholic power in the Roman curia once held by pope and cardinals who denounced, if not anathematized, the very things that have become the official praxis of the Church under the ethos of conciliarism. Hasty and ill-considered canonizations have become the norm in the past twenty-eight years, prompting some traditional Catholics to question the legitimacy of several of these canonizations, an incredible phenomenon given the fact that the canonization of a saint is an infallible act of the Catholic Church. The fact that some of these beatifications canonizations have become highly controversial, such as Angelo Roncalli and Josemaria Escriva Balaguer y Albas, is itself evidence that perhaps there is a larger problem in the Church? After all, as I noted in "Who Decides?," how can any Catholic put into question an infallible act of the Catholic Church?

Pope Benedict XVI spoke at length during his now concluded trip to Poland about the canonization of his predecessor, Pope John Paul II. There is no longer, however, any talk of the beatification of Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini, Pope Paul VI, whose personal peccadilloes have now come to light, at least in the Italian press, and make it impossible even for a committed revolutionary to ignore, especially in light of the scandals involving perverted bishops and clergy in the past few years. Karol Wojtyla, though, is another matter. Roncalli's case is stalled, partly a product of the fact that his supposedly "incorrupt" body was preserved by one of the best embalming jobs since the one performed on the corpse of Vladimir I. Lenin. Karol Wojtyla must be canonized as the poster boy of conciliarism and all of its errors.

Mr. John Vennari, the editor of Catholic Family News, did a simply fabulous job last year of explaining The Secret of Pope John Paul II's Success. No one who reads Mr. Vennari's article dispassionately can conclude that Pope John Paul II is a worthy candidate for canonization. He is not. Although there is no need to duplicate the work done by Mr. Vennari, whose research and documentation leave no stone unturned, it is important to review some basic facts as to why Pope Benedict XVI's insistence on the canonization of his predecessor is as assault against the Faith and an insult to the saints who resisted, sometimes to the point of their very deaths, the things that became so commonplace in the pontificate of John Paul II, including worshiping with members of false religions. The analysis provided herein presumes, for the sake of argumentation as an advocate against the canonization of the late pontiff, the legitimacy of his pontificate and the validity of the Novus Ordo Missae. It is the evidence, combined with that amassed by Mr. Vennari, that I would present to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints if I were asked to make such a presentation.

A Legacy of Revolution and the Devastation of Souls

Pope John Paul II followed the lead of his immediate predecessor, Pope John Paul I, and refused to be crowned, signifying a major change in the nature of the papacy. His first encyclical letter, Redemptor Hominis, issued in March of 1979, was a harbinger of how he would further cloud the clarity of Catholic language that had become obscured by the ambiguity of the conciliar and postconciliar documents. His personalist, phenomenological approach to the Church and the world was there on display in that first encyclical letter. While reminding theologians to be faithful to the Church's magisterium, he also spoke against "Triumphalism" in an address to Catholic university educators at the field house of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., on October 7, 1979.

Pope John Paul II further institutionalized and expanded the liturgical revolution. His Papal extravaganza Masses were used quite deliberately by one of Annibale Bugnini's chief henchmen, Archbishop Piero Marini, to provide precedents of “inculturation” for the rest of the world. Gross sacrileges against the Blessed Sacrament were committed repeatedly in Papal Masses around the world. All of the late Pope's personal devotion to Eucharistic adoration can never redeem the sacrileges that he permitted to occur over and over and over again in his own Masses. No outpouring of human affection for the memory of John Paul II can undo the outrages committed against desecrated Hosts at Papal Masses. No amount of human praise for Wojtyla's “humanity” and for his being so “pro-life” can take away the fact that permitted Our Lord’s Real Presence to be manhandled and trampled underfoot in Papal extravaganza Masses in Rome and throughout the world. Anyone who thinks that we are going to restore protection to the unborn in the womb while the true Church herself permits the sacrilege of Communion in the hand and the desecrations of Our Lord's Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity that follows as a result is practicing self-eception of the highest order.

Sacrileges Against Our Lord's Real Presence

These unspeakable acts against Our Lord’s Real Presence were not isolated to one or two different Papal Masses. I personally saw a woman passing consecrated Hosts repeatedly to people in back of her at a Papal Mass in Philadelphia on October 3, 1979. The priest who was distributing Holy Communion realized what was happening and exclaimed, “Hey, lady, you can’t do that! Stop it!” This incident occurred less than twenty-four hours after a young priest of the Archdiocese of New York saw hundreds of consecrated Hosts being dumped into burlap sacks after the Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium. In an incident that occurred twenty-two years and eight months later, in June of 2002, twin brothers from Long Island reported to me that they saw scores of consecrated Hosts strewn on the Via Della Conciliazione after the Papal canonization Mass of Saint Padre Pio. These men, Michael and Marco Posilico, consumed as many of the Hosts as they could. None of these things happened in the pontificates prior to Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II. Some priests were known to lick the floor with their own tongues if a consecrated Host fell to the floor as they were distributing Holy Communion on the tongue of one of the faithful. The large-scale desecration of Hosts during Papal Masses alone, no less the average parish offering of the Novus Ordo Missae, is a documented fact that no one can honestly dismiss as trivial or inconsequential.

Indeed, the attempted sale last year on eBay of what was reported by a seller to have been a consecrated Host from a Papal Mass on October 18, 1998, in Saint Peter's Square on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the late Holy Father's accession to the Throne of Saint Peter adds further documentation to the way in which the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of the God-Man, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, has been manhandled as a result of sacrileges permitted by Pope Paul VI and continued by Pope John Paul II. These are grave matters that no Catholic who says he loves Our Lord and adores Him in His Real Presence can dismiss as inconsequential or not reflecting very, very poorly on the long pontificate of Pope John Paul II. The fact that the discovery of this matter came on eBay only days following the Pope John Paul II's burial was quite a Providential reminder of the harm done to Our Lord in His Real Presence as a result of the novelties fostered by the Novus Ordo Missae and its apologists, including John Paul II himself.

Although it seems relatively trivial now in comparison to the ultimate liturgical abuse, that is, the Novus Ordo Missae itself, the permission of "altar girls" in 1994 was a resounding slap in the face to the theology of service at the altar (that males serve at the altar as the extension of the hands of the priest, who is himself a male in the likeness of the Chief Priest and Victim of every Mass, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ) and a stunning victory for the forces of using the Mass as a pretext for placing an ecclesiastical stamp on the ideologies of the moment, especially egalitarianism and feminism. The Pope's steadfast adherence to the ossified formulas of the liturgical revolution is what would lead him to refuse to entertain all entreaties by the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the bishops of the Society of Saint Pius X that Quo Primum means what it says and that no priest needs any permission to offer the Immemorial Mass of Tradition.

Ecumenism and Religious Liberty: Reaffirming Souls in False Religions, Denying Christ His Social Reign

Not much needs to be written about the Pope's embrace of the errors of ecumenism, condemned in no uncertain terms by Pope Pius XI in Mortalium Animos. The Assisi events were occasions of great scandal to the Catholic Faith. Would Our Lord, Whose Vicar on earth the former Karol Wojtyla was, have kissed the Koran or permitted himself to have been "purified" in pagan rituals? Of course not. The late Pontiff, however, permitted the Catholic Faith to be undermined with his own words and actions and put men into power, such as Walter Kasper, who further undermined the Faith without ever a word of Papal rebuke. And all of the Pope's repeated condemnations of abortion were couched in the language of conciliarspeak, refusing to admit that the problems of Modernity, including abortion, have been caused by the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King that was the direct intention of the Protestant Revolt and of the rise of Freemasonry and the scores of ideologies spawned thereafter. His refusal to excommunicate solemnly all Catholic pro-abortion politicians is one of his saddest legacies.

Sadder still, the late Pope's pontificate embraced the very notions of the modern State that had been condemned by Popes Gregory XVI, Pius IX, Leo XIII, Saint Pius X, and Pius XI. Indeed, the late Holy Father was incapable of admitting that the loss of "Christian identity" in Europe that he deplored so frequently was the specific result of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King and that the Church's own refusal to proclaim this immutable doctrine in the conciliar and postconciliar era has only served the interests of the enemies of Our Lord and His Most Blessed Mother.

Clemency for Killers, No Pleas for Brain-Damaged Victims of Modernity

Pope John Paul II pleaded repeatedly for clemency to be extended to death row prisoners by name while he refused to plead by name for those about to be starved and dehydrated to death, including the late Hugh Finn and the late Mrs. Terri Schiavo, whose own murder presaged the Pope's death by natural causes by a matter of two days. The Pope was near death when Mrs. Schiavo was being starved and dehydrated to death, you say? True. He was nearer death on Friday, April 1, 2005, when he "named" seventeen new bishops from his deathbed. The Pope, even at the point of death, demonstrated that he could attend to those things that he wanted to attend to by the sheer force of his incontestably strong will. Speaking by name for Hugh Finn or Mrs. Theresa Marie Schindler-Schiavo was not one of the things he sought to do as it would have meant contradicting his bishops and thus running afoul of the Vatican II novelty of episcopal collegiality.

A very astute observer asked the following question after Mass last year just hours before Pope John Paul II died. Which is worse: the world's unjust criticism of Pope Pius XII or the world's lavish praise for Pope John Paul II? It is a very bad thing when the world heaps praise upon a Successor of Saint Peter for speaking in terms of humanitarianism and naturalism that appealed to people of "all religions without distinction." One Italian prelate, interviewed on CBS Radio, said, "The Pope turned the papacy from a purely Catholic institution into a spokesman for human and social rights." Oh, yes, the former Karol Cardinal Wojtyla did indeed appeal to the spirit of Modernity's rejection of the necessity of every State's public and confessional recognition of the Social Reign of Christ the King as the absolute foundation of social order, which is a large part of the reason why there was such universal praise accorded him in the days following his death. “Woe to you when men shall bless you: for according to these things did their fathers to the false prophets.” (Lk. 6: 26)

Rewarding Enemies of Our Lord and Our Lady

The Pope's governance of the Church was so abysmal that even sources generally favorably inclined to the Second Vatican Council and the Novus Ordo Missae began to question whether the late pontiff deserved to be called what his reflexive supporters, who viewed any criticism of him as disloyalty and proof of a "schismatic" mentality, kept insisting in the past few years as "John Paul the Great," no less “Saint” John Paul the Great. His appointment of bishops was atrocious. His refusal to remove bishops who were doctrinally deviant and/or personally corrupt was inexcusable. This writer knows personally that were many instances in which individuals brought the pope incontrovertible evidence of episcopal wrong-doing, including a lack of belief in basic elements in the Creed. The pontiff refused to do anything even when he was perfectly healthy and mentally fit. He continued to reward the revolutionaries time and again.

There is nothing more important a pope can do than to appoint bishops and to provide for their censure and removal if they prove to be wayward. The late Pope John Paul II could not even govern his own curia. Those who are in actual schism with the Church or guilty of abject heresy (the Orthodoxy, the Anglicans, the Lutherans, Jews) could count on warm words of welcome from the late pontiff while those who held fast to the authentic Tradition of the Church were disciplined and said to be guilty of schism and disobedience. Great leeway was accorded those in official teaching positions in the Church worldwide to place articles contained in the Deposit of Faith into doubt. No such courtesy was accorded those who simply believed as Catholics had always believed until an "ecclesiogenesis" of a "new Church," the "new springtime of the Church," arose in 1958. And despite words of concern about the scandal of perverted clergy in the United States and elsewhere, the Holy Father rewarded the former Archbishop of Boston, Bernard Cardinal Law, whose protection and promotion of perverted priests shook the faith of many poorly catechized souls, with the appointment as the Archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, to say nothing of the prominent role he played in the late pope's funeral Mass last year. John Paul II refused to act on the incontrovertible evidence presented to him about perverted bishops, such as the disgraced former Bishop of Springfield, Illinois, Daniel Ryan, and priests until these scandals exploded into public view. And it took the former Bishop of Phoenix, Arizona, Thomas O’Brien, to be involved in a hit and run automobile accident that killed a drunken pedestrian before he was forced to resign after a cascade of perverted priests' scandals in his diocese.

Look at this merely partial and grossly incomplete record of the wretched state of the hierarchy in the United States alone and ask yourself if a pope of true sanctity would have refused–and the word is refused–to have acted in defense of the Catholic Faith:

–Bishop Tod Brown of the Diocese of Orange has agreed to pay out millions of dollars to victims of priest perversion in his diocese. He remains a bishop in “good standing” despite the decisions that enabled the perverts, spending even more millions of the contributions given him by the poor sheep of his flock to build a “cathedral” to rival the monstrosity built by his classmate to the north, Roger Cardinal Mahony. It is now a "mortal sin" at Saint Mary's by the Sea Church in Huntington Beach, California, to kneel for the reception of Holy Communion

–Roger Cardinal Mahony got to keep his cardinal’s red hat despite his promotion each year of a catechetical conference featuring those who promote teachings contrary to the Catholic Faith and despite his own record with respect to the whole issue of perversion.

–Bishop Patrick McGrath of the Diocese of San Jose gets to remain a bishop in “good standing” even after he has denied the historicity of the Gospels.

–Bishop Sylvester Ryan of the Diocese of Monterey got to remain a bishop in “good standing” despite his having had an actual abortionist on his priests’ abuse “advisory board,” the subject of two articles of mine on the Seattle Catholic site in late-2003 and early-2004. No response was ever forthcoming from Bishop Ryan's office following a series of questions that I had posed to him about this matter.

–Archbishop Thomas Kelly, O.P. of the Archdiocese of Louisville, Kentucky, got to remain a bishop in “good standing” after he reaffirmed Mrs. Michele Finn in the belief that it was morally licit for her to seek to remove the feeding and hydration tubes from her brain-damaged husband, Hugh Finn, in 1998.

–Bishop Walter Sullivan of the Diocese of Richmond was permitted to serve until the mandatory retirement age despite his own affirmation of Mrs. Michele Finn’s actions in 1998.

–Bishop Matthew Clark of the Diocese of Rochester, New York, remained a bishop in “good standing” despite his having said in the 1990s that the Church must find some way to “bless” perverted “unions.”

–Bishop Robert N. Lynch of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg, Florida, remained a bishop in “good standing” despite his refusal to support Mrs. Theresa Marie Schindler-Schiavo’s absolute right to the provision and food and water and despite his own attacks upon Solemn Eucharistic Adoration.

--Bishop John Raymond McGann of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, was permitted to remain a bishop in "good standing" despite his years of attacks on the Catholic Faith--and upon priests who were "merely conservative," to say nothing of sympathetic to the Immemorial Mass of Tradition.

--John Cardinal O'Connor of the Archdiocese of New York got to keep his red hat despite having said on national television that "God was smiling" on the decision of a Catholic man to convert to Judaism.

–Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza was never reprimanded publicly for his having written to Father Stephen P. Zigrang that he, Father Zigrang, had associated with a “schismatic” group, the Society of Saint Pius X, that did not believe in the “enduring validity of the Old Covenant God made with the people of Israel.” To do this would be to contradict the spirit of false ecumenism practiced by the late Holy Father himself.

--As noted above, the thoroughly disgraced Bishop Daniel Ryan, the Ordinary of the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, between 1983 and 1999, was permitted to remain in power for nearly three years after Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc., brought incontrovertible evidence of his own perverted activities to the attention of the Holy See. He was permitted to retire in good standing in 1999 and to function as a retired bishop in good standing until the Diocese of Springfield had to admit, despite all of its protestations to the contrary and despite all of Ryan's spokeswoman's denunciations of Roman Catholic Faithful President Stephen G. Brady, in January of 2003 that the charges were correct all along.

–Every bishop in the United States countenances some form of explicit, classroom instruction in matters pertaining to the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, specifically and categorically violating the purity and innocence of the children entrusted to their pastoral care unto eternity and absolutely prohibited by Pope Pius XI in Divini Illius Magistri.

--Most every bishop in the United States of America and elsewhere remains deaf, dumb and blind to outright denials of articles contained in the Deposit of Faith by priests and deacons from the pulpit during the offering of Holy Mass and in the classrooms of Catholic educational institutions.

–The hostility of most of the bishops in the United States and in the world to the glories of the Traditional Latin Mass borders on the diabolical, exceeded only by the scions of Bugnini himself who are still very much in power in the Holy See. The progenitors of a different religion must hate anything that reminds them of the immutability of God and His truths, and the fact that the Church’s Sacred Liturgy revolves around God, not man. These bishops and their chancery factotums have a palpable hatred and disgust for those who believe what the Church has taught perennially and who worship God in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church as He has been worshiped for most of the past two millennia, deeming such miscreants" to be worthy of excoriation and thus to be dismissed as reactionaries of some bygone era that is best sent down the Orwellian memory hole.

This is just a partial listing of the utter devastation of the Church begun under Pope John XXIII, expedited under Pope Paul VI, and institutionalized under Pope John Paul II. Nevertheless, a man named Thomas Cahill wrote an op-ed article in The New York Times on April 5, 2005, commenting on how Pope John Paul II had subjected dissenters such as Fathers Hans Kung, Leonardo Boff, and Edward Schillebeeckx to “star chamber” interrogations of their writings. Mr. Cahill was not familiar with the actual record.

Father Kung remains to this day a priest in good standing despite his attacks on Papal Infallibility, a solemnly defined dogma of the Catholic Faith, and his support for the One World Church.

Father Edward Schillebeeckx remains a priest in good standing despite his having said that “God has no son” and that “Jesus is the natural son of Saint Joseph,” thereby attacking the Divinity of Our Lord and the Perpetual Virginity of Our Lady and the celibate self-giving of Saint Joseph

Father Leonardo Boff left the Church of his own accord when he faced a second one year period of silencing for his embrace of “liberation theology.” Nothing, though, has happened to the hundreds upon hundreds of Boff’s disciples, both priests and laity, who teach this heresy in Catholic universities and colleges and seminaries and workshops and “update” programs. The late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre was “excommunicated” by Pope John Paul II without so much as a trial to hear his claims that a State of Emergency existed that justified his episcopal consecrations in June of 1988. Priests who put into question and/or deny articles contained in the Deposit of Faith were simply questioned during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II while never losing their faculties as priests even if, as in the cases of Kung and Father Charles Curran, they were denied the ability to teach theology in Catholic universities. No human being who is in contact with reality can claim with a straight face that the late Pope John Paul II “disciplined” heretical priests. This is simply not true.

Communism? Still Alive and Well, Thank You

Well, what about the fall of the Soviet Union? Didn't Pope John Paul II play a role in that? Unquestionably. Unfortunately, the "fall" of the Soviet Union was a smokescreen used by the devil to convince us that Russia had been converted. The fall of the overt manifestations of Bolshevism in Eastern Europe and the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics has not stopped the spread of the errors of Russia there or elsewhere, including the United States of America. The Pope returned icons to the Russian Orthodox, warned against Catholic "proselytism" there, and stood by as his curial cardinals said repeatedly that Russia, steeped in the errors of Orthodoxy, did not have to be converted to the Catholic Faith, turning Our Lady’s Fatima Message on its head. Pope John Paul II's steadfast refusal to consecrate Russia to Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart will rank as one of the worst acts of betrayal of Heaven next to King Louis XIV and the bishops of France refusing the pleas of Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1689 to do what Our Lord had requested at that time: the consecration of France to His Most Sacred Heart. And there is the nasty little reality that overt Communism is very much alive and well in Red China, Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea. The end of Communism? The Conversion of Russia? These things have not happened. They are myths.

Either of the Holy Ghost or of a Spirit Not from God

The pontificate of the late Pope John Paul II either represented an authentically new way of the Church presenting herself to the world or it represented a tragic departure from the sure path of Tradition that had been followed by every single pope prior to 1958. If the pontificate of the man who is now being acclaimed as a candidate for canonization was an authentic inspiration of the Holy Ghost, there is at least one minor problem, which has been mentioned and documented before: the countless numbers of desecrations of Our Lord in His Real Presence on a regular basis in Catholic Masses around the world, including those offered by Pope John Paul II himself, who had been informed of these abuses by cardinals and other curial officials. The Holy Ghost would never approve of such sacrileges. The Catholic Faith can never be reconciled with offenses against the Blessed Sacrament and denials of articles contained in the Deposit of Faith. No priest such as Father Bruno Forte, who had written in the 1990s that the Resurrection of Our Lord never happened, would have been approved to be a bishop by a pope concerned about the integrity of the Faith and then consecrated personally by the cardinal prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the man who is now Pope Benedict XVI.

Questions Need to be Asked, Prayers Need to be Said

The Catholic Church is the Mystical Bride of Christ, Who is her Invisible Head. She will last until the end of time despite all of the assaults waged against her by the enemies of the God-Man from without. She will last until the end of time despite all of the efforts of her members, including each one of us, to undermine her authority by our sins and our indifference and our bad example. She will last until the end of time despite this current epoch of novelty that has been embraced by one pope after another since the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958. (And Pope Pius XII put into place most of the key players--Giovanni Montini, Annibale Bugnini, Angelo Roncalli--who would undermine the Church in her human elements.) She will last until the end of time despite all of the multifaceted and inter-related problems that beset her at present. The jaws of Hell will never prevail against the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church headed on earth by the Successor of Saint Peter, the Vicar of Christ.

This does not mean, however, that the devil is not going to win a few battles now and again in our own lives or in the larger life of the Church in her human elements. There should be talk only of praying for Pope John Paul II's immortal soul, not of canonizing him. Whether or not he realized it, he made war against the Catholic Faith and reaffirmed adherents of false religions in pathways that lead only to eternal perdition. He spoke things that were simply opposed to the Faith, such as his heretical belief that the Old Covenant was not superceded by the New and Eternal Covenant instituted by Our Lord at the Last Supper and ratified by the shedding of every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross.

Once again, the words of Pope Leo XIII in Satis Cognitum, 1896, come to mind:

The Church, founded on these principles and mindful of her office, has done nothing with greater zeal and endeavour than she has displayed in guarding the integrity of the faith. Hence she regarded as rebels and expelled from the ranks of her children all who held beliefs on any point of doctrine different from her own. The Arians, the Montanists, the Novatians, the Quartodecimans, the Eutychians, did not certainly reject all Catholic doctrine: they abandoned only a certain portion of it. Still who does not know that they were declared heretics and banished from the bosom of the Church? In like manner were condemned all authors of heretical tenets who followed them in subsequent ages. "There can be nothing more dangerous than those heretics who admit nearly the whole cycle of doctrine, and yet by one word, as with a drop of poison, infect the real and simple faith taught by our Lord and handed down by Apostolic tradition" (Auctor Tract. de Fide Orthodoxa contra Arianos).

The practice of the Church has always been the same, as is shown by the unanimous teaching of the Fathers, who were wont to hold as outside Catholic communion, and alien to the Church, whoever would recede in the least degree from any point of doctrine proposed by her authoritative Magisterium. Epiphanius, Augustine, Theodore :, drew up a long list of the heresies of their times. St. Augustine notes that other heresies may spring up, to a single one of which, should any one give his assent, he is by the very fact cut off from Catholic unity. "No one who merely disbelieves in all (these heresies) can for that reason regard himself as a Catholic or call himself one. For there may be or may arise some other heresies, which are not set out in this work of ours, and, if any one holds to one single one of these he is not a Catholic" (S. Augustinus, De Haeresibus, n. 88).

An attempt to canonize the late Pope John Paul II will be but one more example of how an infallible act of the Church can be mocked by the scions of conciliarism, raising questions that honest Catholics must address in a spirit of prayer and reflection. No canonized pope in the history of the Catholic Church ever participated in false worship with the non-ordained. No canonized pope in the history of the Catholic Church ever presided over the appointment of so many bishops who were bereft of the Catholic Faith and who proved themselves to be wolves' in shepherds' clothing as they devastated the Faith of the sheep entrusted to their pastoral care. No canonized pope ever dared to give his approval to "movements" that had their origins in propositions condemned by their predecessors (such as Pope Saint Pius X's condemnation of the Sillon, which is the foundation of World Youth Day). No canonized pope ever proved to be indifferent to the matter of sacrileges committed against the Real Presence of the Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament or to gross profanations during the offerings of what were purported to be Holy Mass. No canonized pope ever kissed the Koran or praised a voodoo witch-doctor.

Judgment on the soul of the man born as Karol Josef Wojtyla belonged to God alone when he breathed his last. I pray for his soul every day without fail. The cause for his canonization has more to do with enshrining conciliarism than it does with any effort to maintain the Faith as it had been handed down to us from the Apostles. Father Karol Wojtyla had to take the following Oath against Modernism when he was ordained to the priesthood on November 1, 1946, and then consecrated as a bishop on September 28, 1958:

I . . . . firmly embrace and accept each and every definition that has been set forth and declared by the unerring teaching authority of the Church, especially those principal truths which are directly opposed to the errors of this day. And first of all, I profess that God, the origin and end of all things, can be known with certainty by the natural light of reason from the created world (see Rom. 1:90), that is, from the visible works of creation, as a cause from its effects, and that, therefore, his existence can also be demonstrated: Secondly, I accept and acknowledge the external proofs of revelation, that is, divine acts and especially miracles and prophecies as the surest signs of the divine origin of the Christian religion and I hold that these same proofs are well adapted to the understanding of all eras and all men, even of this time. Thirdly, I believe with equally firm faith that the Church, the guardian and teacher of the revealed word, was personally instituted by the real and historical Christ when he lived among us, and that the Church was built upon Peter, the prince of the apostolic hierarchy, and his successors for the duration of time. Fourthly, I sincerely hold that the doctrine of faith was handed down to us from the apostles through the orthodox Fathers in exactly the same meaning and always in the same purport. Therefore, I entirely reject the heretical' misrepresentation that dogmas evolve and change from one meaning to another different from the one which the Church held previously. I also condemn every error according to which, in place of the divine deposit which has been given to the spouse of Christ to be carefully guarded by her, there is put a philosophical figment or product of a human conscience that has gradually been developed by human effort and will continue to develop indefinitely. Fifthly, I hold with certainty and sincerely confess that faith is not a blind sentiment of religion welling up from the depths of the subconscious under the impulse of the heart and the motion of a will trained to morality; but faith is a genuine assent of the intellect to truth received by hearing from an external source. By this assent, because of the authority of the supremely truthful God, we believe to be true that which has been revealed and attested to by a personal God, our creator and lord.

“Furthermore, with due reverence, I submit and adhere with my whole heart to the condemnations, declarations, and all the prescripts contained in the encyclical Pascendi and in the decree Lamentabili, especially those concerning what is known as the history of dogmas. I also reject the error of those who say that the faith held by the Church can contradict history, and that Catholic dogmas, in the sense in which they are now understood, are irreconcilable with a more realistic view of the origins of the Christian religion. I also condemn and reject the opinion of those who say that a well-educated Christian assumes a dual personality-that of a believer and at the same time of a historian, as if it were permissible for a historian to hold things that contradict the faith of the believer, or to establish premises which, provided there be no direct denial of dogmas, would lead to the conclusion that dogmas are either false or doubtful. Likewise, I reject that method of judging and interpreting Sacred Scripture which, departing from the tradition of the Church, the analogy of faith, and the norms of the Apostolic See, embraces the misrepresentations of the rationalists and with no prudence or restraint adopts textual criticism as the one and supreme norm. Furthermore, I reject the opinion of those who hold that a professor lecturing or writing on a historico-theological subject should first put aside any preconceived opinion about the supernatural origin of Catholic tradition or about the divine promise of help to preserve all revealed truth forever; and that they should then interpret the writings of each of the Fathers solely by scientific principles, excluding all sacred authority, and with the same liberty of judgment that is common in the investigation of all ordinary historical documents.

“Finally, I declare that I am completely opposed to the error of the modernists who hold that there is nothing divine in sacred tradition; or what is far worse, say that there is, but in a pantheistic sense, with the result that there would remain nothing but this plain simple fact-one to be put on a par with the ordinary facts of history-the fact, namely, that a group of men by their own labor, skill, and talent have continued through subsequent ages a school begun by Christ and his apostles. I firmly hold, then, and shall hold to my dying breath the belief of the Fathers in the charism of truth, which certainly is, was, and always will be in the succession of the episcopacy from the apostles. The purpose of this is, then, not that dogma may be tailored according to what seems better and more suited to the culture of each age; rather, that the absolute and immutable truth preached by the apostles from the beginning may never be believed to be different, may never be understood in any other way.

“I promise that I shall keep all these articles faithfully, entirely, and sincerely, and guard them inviolate, in no way deviating from them in teaching or in any way in word or in writing. Thus I promise, this I swear, so help me God, and these holy Gospels of God which I touch with my hand.

May God help us to keep this oath until death. Pray for the Restoration to come

Can it be said that the late Pope John Paul II believed in the following dogmatic degree of the Council of Florence, 1442, a decree that he would have had to accept under the Oath Against Modernism?

The holy Roman Church believes, professes, and preaches that 'no one remaining outside the Catholic Church, not just pagans, but also Jews or heretics or schismatics, can become partakers of eternal life; but they will go to the everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels,' unless before the end of life they are joined to the Church. For the union with the body of the Church is of such importance that the sacraments of the Church are helpful to salvation only for those who remaining in it; and fasts, almsgiving, other works of piety, and the exercise of Christian warfare bear eternal rewards from them alone. And no one can be saved, no matter how much alms, he has given, even if he sheds his blood for the name of Christ, unless he remains in the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.

If not, then it is the case that the late pontiff is a more apt a candidate for "anathema sit" from a future pope than for canonization at the hands of his successor, another candidate for future anathemization who doesn't believe in this dogmatic pronouncement either, it should be pointed out. Ah, but what's a dogmatic pronouncement from nearly six centuries ago when you've got Vatican II on your side?

Trusting in Our Lady and her chaste spouse, Saint Joseph, we continue the Novena to the Holy Ghost in these truly unprecedented times in the history of the Church, hoping that the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which usher in the Restoration of Tradition in the Church and Christendom in the world, is not far away.

Vivat Christus Rex!
